New Art Class Opportunities

ART CLASSES:

This Saturday April 27, 2024 AAG will be hosting two classes; in-person for Veterans followed by a zoom class at 2:00. 

Class descriptions and registration information:

  1. Veterans Art Class |  April 27, 2024 | 10:00-2:00 
    Pet Portraits – or paint yourself as your spirit animal with David Bradley and Tess Mosko Scherer

In this workshop we will focus on how to draw common domesticated animals, focusing on the features that make beloved pets unique. If you do not have a pet, no fear, you can draw an animal that you feel a connection with, a spirit animal, or a friend’s pet(bring photos).

No previous experience required. All supplies will be provided.

  1. Creative Distraction :  Online Art Class
    April 27, 2024 | 2:00-3:00 via zoom

    Pet Portraits – or paint yourself as your spirit animal with David Bradley

This class is open to Veterans, healthcare workers or anyone experiencing loss, grief or isolation. You can participate in the class with art supplies commonly found at home, such as pencils, paper, colored pencil, etc. However, if you need assistance with art supplies please reach out and we are happy to provide them for you.  Email Tess to make arrangements.

Materials:
16 x 20 paper (suggested size)
drawing tools:  pencil and eraser
           or:  charcoal, kneaded eraser, stumps, chamois, rags
If you prefer to work in color, you may use:  watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, or pastel

Creative Distraction has a two-step registration process.
First, email ArtistsofAAG@gmail.com. Be sure to include your name and “Creative Distraction registration.

EXHIBIITION NEWS

Veterans Art Show at Mayo:
The show has been installed and looks beautiful.  If you would like to see it, the gallery space is in Mayo Clinic Hospital, just outside of 1 Central Check-in and the Pharmacy (an immediate turn to the right once inside the Hospital’s main doors).  The exhibit is scheduled to be up through June 14, 2024.

Summer Veterans Art Exhibit at AAG
Call for Art.  Arizona Art Alliance is hosting an exhibition of Veterans art featuring the artwork by participants in the art classes at WHAM, AAG, Mesa Art League, Mountain Artists Guild and Sonoran Arts League.  Veterans can enter up to 3 pieces of Art.   Be sure to label each piece of art with your name, title of work, medium and price if it is available for sale or NFS if it is not available for sale.

Important Dates:
Show Dates:  June 2 through July 26, 2024

Drop off art:   

Saturday April 27, 2024 10:00 to 2:00 pm – during the veterans art class
Saturday May 25, 2024 10:00 to 2:00 pm – during the veterans art class

Pick up art:
            Saturday July 27 | 10:00-2:00– during the Veterans art class or contact Tess to make alternate arrangements

Reception:  Saturday, June 22, 2024 | 2:00-4:00
The reception will follow the monthly art class at AAG.  All are invited to attend the class followed by the reception at 2:00.  Lunch will be served during the class as well as light refreshments for the reception.  RSVP is required for the class and lunch.

            The Mesa Art League Veterans Ukulele Band will perform at 3:00.  Please come and support the band and our creative veterans.
